cant stop thinking abt ursula k. le guin’s essay abt the carrier bag theory….. she’s like, maybe the first human tool was not a weapon, but rather something that holds, a bag, a pouch, a vessel, something for gathering and storing and sharing. let’s shift the narrative of humanity from that of violence to that of safekeeping. and i’m like
and THEN she’s like, a novel is also a carrier bag. there’s the Hero’s story, sure, but there’s room enough in fiction for every experience, for every little thing, and it’s that other story, the life story, that she seeks……. o|-<
Baby boomers: why don’t millennials just work 2 jobs?
Minimum wage jobs: ok so we need at least 4 full days of availability, must work holidays, can’t request a set schedule, must work weekends, and you will never know what day or what time you are gonna work until the schedule comes out :)
So this is like my biggest post on this hellsite and it just became super relevant again. (Btw this was made as I was working at Starbucks)
I now work at a massive name in tech (I cannot share the name sorry). I work heavily with computers, phones, trouble shoot, train corporations on how to use cloud and share point, train small and medium businesses and on Saturdays my company hosts gaming events that I usually have to be at.
Now it’s close to the holidays and I wanted just a little extra in my pocket for December plans and I applied to target because they advertise their seasonal positions as being a second job to make more cash and they would work with your schedule.
I go to my interview, my resume full of all of the business and tech based work I’ve done in the past year plus all my other work experience. First question from this bitchs mouth “oh I see you have Starbucks experience! That’s great! Would you want to work in our cafe!?”. I politely decline. I tell her I have a background in technology and I would like to work there or on the sales floor. I tell her my availability which included tuesday, wednesday, friday and Sunday but not Saturday. She was so stuck on the fact I wouldn’t work Saturday. She tried to convince me to leave my other job just so I can be available on saturday. I tell her no…. my pay and benefits are amazing over there. This is only for extra cash. She outright refused to finish the interview over one day of the week. I’m dumbfounded. I was way over qualified for that job and even my parents can’t believe they would refuse someone for that reason alone
